At a special meeting November 23, 2020, the Groton Board of Education appointed Ms. Susan L. Austin its new Superintendent of Schools, effective January 1, 2020. Ms. Austin has served the Groton Public Schools as Assistant Superintendent since 2014.
Groton Board of Education Chair Kim Shephardson Watson said, “The Groton Board of Education took very seriously its responsibility to find the best possible candidate to lead our schools. We conducted an extensive search, including many Groton staff and residents in the process through focus groups and surveys. We were a little surprised and very pleased to have attracted a superb pool of candidates with strong experience and credentials. We selected five excellent candidates to interview. Ms. Austin rose to the top of this esteemed group. She impressed us with her plan to support us through this tumultuous time and maintain momentum on the many initiatives currently underway. The Board and I are looking forward to the years ahead under Susan’s leadership.”
