Integrated Preschool Special Needs Program

The Integrated Preschool Special Needs Program at SB Butler provides special education and related services to 3, 4, and 5 year old children who are identified by the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) as having a disability as well as typically developing students acting as peer models.  Students with I.E.P.s' attend three to five days per week based on the PPT recommendation.  Transportation is provided for all students with special needs.  Peer models must be transported by their parents or caregivers.  There are two classes of Integrated Preschool our school.  The first is Mrs. Field's class which is an extended day program.  The other Integrated Preschool is taught by Ms. Mangelinkx and is run as a half-day session preschool program.  Peer models are part of each program.  The extended day program goes from 12:30-2:30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. For peers participating in the half day program the schedule is 8:50-11:35 Monday through Friday for the morning class and 12:30-3:20 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for the afternoon class.  There is no school on Wednesday afternoons for any of the students.

Each of these programs offer a Peer Role Model component.   Peer Role Models are children who are 3 and 4 year old who demonstrate strengths in areas of socialization, communication, cognition, and behavior.  Peers participate in a brief screening process to become eligible for the lottery drawing for a slot in the program.  If you are interested in having your child screened for this program, please look for information on the Groton Public Schools main page.

If you have any questions about the program or need additional information, please contact Denise Doolittle, Program Supervisor at 860-572-2158.
