New Student Registration

Welcome to Groton Public Schools!

Groton Public Schools is home to five intra-district magnet themed elementary schools (Grades K-5), Groton Middle School (Grades 6-8) and Robert E. Fitch High School (Grades 9-12), as well as Early Childhood Programs for three and four year old children.

 

Registration must be completed by a legal parent or guardian.

How to Register Your Child for Groton Public Schools

Grades K-12

  • Step 1: Review the Required Documents.

  • Step 2: Scans or take pictures of your required documents with a smartphone. Document photos must be clear and we must be able to read the required information.

  • Step 3: Complete the New Student Registration Form online and upload your documents.

  • Step 4: A member of the Groton Public Schools registration office will contact you regarding your child's registration and next steps.

PreSchool and Pre-Kindergarten

Has your child been screened by our Early Childhood Team? 

Yes, my child was screened.

  • If they were accepted, please complete the New Student Registration for Grades K-12.
  • If they have not been accepted please wait until you hear from the team.

Required Registration Documents

Proof of Residency

Proof of residency can be verified by submitting: (a) one document from column A and (b) one document from column B. 

Only those items listed on the Documents for Proof of Residency table in this policy will be accepted as proof of residency.  Each document submitted must specify the physical address of where the student lives; post office box addresses are not acceptable.

Column B

  • Residential rental or lease agreement
  • Residential mortgage statement
  • Residential purchase or escrow agreement
  • Property tax bill (dated within the past year)
  • Notarized Residency Affidavit*
  • Military Families Only: with 30-day follow-up
  • Letter of Intent for residency
  • Military Orders
  • Valid Connecticut driver’s license (address labels not accepted)

One of the following dated within the last 30 days

  • Utility bill (gas, electric, telephone, cable TV, etc.)
  • Letter from an approved government agency
     (assisted housing, food stamps, unemployment payment, etc.)
  • Payroll stub
  • Bank or credit card statement
  • Current vehicle registration or insurance bill
  • Medical billing or insurance information

Your Photo ID

  • A driver's license, military id, passport, or other federal or state issued photo ID.
  • Proof of legal guardianship is also required if you are not the birth parent or if you are divorced, such as: adoption papers, court order clarifying guardianship, guardianship papers from Probate Court, DCF form 603 (must be signed by DCF or legal designee).

Documents accepted for proof of child’s age (hand-written documents will not be accepted)

  • Hospital, Physician or Religious Certificate showing date of birth
  • Passport
  • Adoption Record
  • Birth Certificate
  • Previously verified school records showing date of birth

 

  • Current Physical Exam and Immunization Records*
    • Proof of a physical exam and for the 2023-2024 school year the first page of the Health Assessment Record (HAR-3), completed by the parent/guardian. Physical must be within the past 12 months of the anticipated school start date.  For the 2024-2025 school year the HAR is completed in the Registration Form.
    • Per the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health proof of immunizations is required.  2023-2023 Immunization Requirements.

* Newly enrolled students will not be permitted to physically enter their assigned school building if they are deemed non-compliant with state of CT Health requirements.
