Proof of residency can be verified by submitting: (a) one document from column A and (b) one document from column B. 

Only those items listed on the Documents for Proof of Residency table in this policy will be accepted as proof of residency.  Each document submitted must specify the physical address of where the student lives; post office box addresses are not acceptable.

*MILITARY FAMILIES ONLY

1. Military families planning to live at Beacon Point Homes (Balfour Beatty), but do not yet have a signed lease, may supply a Home Offer Letter provided by Beacon Point Homes. Families must supply the required residency documents from Column A and B within 30 days of registration.
2. Military families coming to Groton without finalized housing arrangements but plan to live in Groton, may use Military Orders to register students in Groton Public Schools. Families must supply the required residency documents from Column A and B within 30 days of registration.
3. Military families already residing in Groton, either in Beacon Point Homes housing or renting in town, will need to provide the required residency documents from Column A and B.

*Notarized Residency Affidavit

If the student’s family is living with another family in Groton: 

1. the person they are living with must complete a notarized Residency Affidavit at the Groton Public Schools’ Central Office stating that the student(s) and parent/guardian live with them at the address, and for what period of time. 

The person completing the affidavit must also provide the following documents:

1. a photo ID
2. one document from column A and one document from column B showing they reside within District and school boundaries.

If the living situation is temporary, once they have moved into their own residence, proof of residency for their new address is required and must be brought to the Central Office Registration Office.

Your Photo ID

• A driver's license, military id, passport, or other federal or state issued photo ID.
• Proof of legal guardianship is also required if you are not the birth parent or if you are divorced, such as: adoption papers, court order clarifying guardianship, guardianship papers from Probate Court, DCF form 603 (must be signed by DCF or legal designee).

Proof of Your Child's Age

• Physical Exam: Proof of a physical exam completed within the past 12 months of your child’s anticipated school start date is required.

  • The parent portion of the Health Assessment Record (HAR) is completed as part of the Registration Form.

  • If you are registering for next school year and your child’s physical is scheduled this summer, please complete the registration form now  and submit the updated physical after the appointment.

• Immunizations: Proof of required immunizations is mandated by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health. Families must provide documentation showing compliance with Connecticut immunization requirements.

Important Reminder: Newly enrolled students who are not compliant with Connecticut health requirements will not be permitted to physically attend school until all required documentation is received and approved.

Residency Verifications are done Monday-Thursday from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. by appointment only.

Students residing in Groton that have accepted a magnet seat outside of Groton Public Schools need to complete a Residency Verification form at Groton Public Schools Administrative Offices located at 1300 Flanders Road, Mystic.  

Please bring the following documents:

1. Current Parent ID
2. Student’s birth certificate
3. One of the following documents from Proof of Residency Column A

• Residential rental or lease agreement
• Residential mortgage statement
• Residential purchase or escrow agreement
• Residential property tax bill (dated within the past year)
• Notarized Residency Affidavit*
• Military Families Only (with 30-day follow-up):
  • Home Offer Letter
  • Military Orders

4. One of the following from Proof of Residency Column B

• Valid Connecticut driver’s license (address labels not accepted)

One of the following dated within the last 30 days:

• Utility bill (gas, electric, telephone, cable TV, etc.)
• Letter from an approved government agency
   (assisted housing, food stamps, unemployment payment, etc.)
• Payroll stub
• Bank or credit card statement
• Current vehicle registration or insurance bill
• Medical billing or insurance information
