Superintendent's Back to School Message
August 25, 2024
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:
I hope your summer has been restorative and revitalizing. I was able to enjoy the annual Jersey Shore vacation with my family, with all my children and nine grandchildren! At Central Office, and in all the schools, we have been busy preparing for the new school year!
As I look ahead to this upcoming school year, I look forward to engaging our students in learning and helping them explore their passions and proclivities, while also tending to social emotional learning. By accelerating learning, fine-tuning the support systems, and enhancing school life with enrichments, clubs, and sports, students will come back to their school community energized with a sense of belonging. This year is the year that we will be Getting Better Together!
With the start of the school year just around the corner, I wanted to let everyone know that we have important information located on the district’s new website at www.grotonschools.org for your review. This includes the schools’ start and end time schedule (see schedule below), the 2023-2024 school calendar, and other pertinent back to school information. Also, for clarification, the first day of school for students is as follows:
- Wednesday, August 30 - Grades 1 through 12
- Thursday, August 31 - Kindergarten and TK
- Tuesday, September 5 - Grades PreK and Pre-School

Attendance Matters! Our district, state, and nation has seen the adverse effects of absenteeism on student performance during the Pandemic and even last year with the Tri-demic; this is the year we will be Showing up Together! We welcome our students and staff as we will be Getting Better Together and look forward to a wonderful new school year 2023-2024!
Sincerely,
Susan L. Austin
